&descText= The Kilauea Lighthouse was built in 1913 and was outfitted with the largest lens of it's kind. The powerful light guided trading ships past the dangerous shoals in foggy weather. In 1975 the huge light was turned off for good and replaced by a low-maintenance warning beacon.&

&alertText=The 203-acre Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge was established here in 1985. The refuge is open to the public and daily guided tours are available.&
